Hi,
Please be sure to use "reply to all" so that the list gets a copy of the

I know.
The current situation is this. The original OLE DB development was done
by my company (Lingnu Open Source Consulting) for a paying customer.
This customer has modified his priorities a little, and so we had to put
the development on the back burner. In the mean time our schedule got
filled up with other things, which means that we don't, currently, have
the resources to continue development.
Getting out of this freeze will take place in one of three possible
ways, as far as I can see:
1. We wait. Sooner or later we will be able to find the time to advance
this project, which I personally would like to see advancing. I cannot
put any time estimate on that, however, as quite frankly, Lingnu's focus
is, today, elsewhere.
2. Someone sponsor further development. This is not as easy as simply
coughing up the money, I'm afraid. We have already had one approach who
asked for a price quote for a specific feature, and we have not been
able to satisfy this simple request. The problem is that the extent of
work involved is not enough to justify us recruiting a new hand to do
that job, and we don't have any existing resrouces available for letting
out.
3. Someone else picks up the development. I am perfectly willing to
continue managing this project, as well as giving all the guidance and
external help I can make it happen. The problem is that this is not
simple code to get into. OLE DB is an area seldom touched by actual
programmers (most use ADO, which is just a wrapper). The code itself
uses ATL, and I had to, on more than one occasion, single step into the
ATL source code in order to understand who things are done, as the MS
documentation was nowhere near complete. As such, we've had no less than
two offers of help in the past, both never came as far as actually
offering a patch.
If you don't think you are up to any of the above, what we also can do
is to try and compile a list, as comperhensive as possible, of the
current driver's short-comings. Given a complete enough list, it may be
possible to get sponsorship to the extent that Lingnu can carry out the
actual development. Worst case, it will serve as a place to look for a
"todo" task list for us or anyone else wishing to know where the driver
currently stands.
