For example, if you are already using PostgreSQL 8.2.3 ,

the patched PostgreSQL 8.2.3.

http://pgfoundry.org/frs/download.php/1285/pgcluster-1.7.0rc4-patch.tar.gz
is the patch against PostgreSQL 8.2.3.
