For the next release we're looking into whether Mono.Security is still needed.

I am fine with the installer being the resolution to this 5 year old :-) issue.

The benefit to having 2 assemblies is that we get to continue to use an assembly built and signed by the mono team rather than repackaging their code.

Here's two alternate feature requests that are more likely to be implemented.
[installer] http://pgfoundry.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1010755&group_id=1000140&atid=593
[remove mono.security dependency] http://pgfoundry.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1005312&group_id=1000140&atid=593

We actually discussed removing mono.security dependency, but rejected it at the time because it's a big breaking change.

Increased complexity of getting things running, another assembly to worry about, more opportunities to have errors, etc.

Is there a benefit for having 2 assemblies?

I guess having two assemblies is fine if there was an installer, but since it's all manual, would be nice to minimize product complexity by merging everything into a single DLL.

We are not likely to integrate the mono dll with Npgsql. Other than aesthetics, is there a specific issue with having 2 assemblies?

Agreed. Any progress on this?
